What does it take to rank

I have noticed that since the last update it is not as simple as sending strong PBN links in order to rank.
What are now other steps for new sites which need to be taken besides sending good PBN links to succeed?
I am talking in particular about affiliate market which niches where it is hard to produce valuable content for visitors which would be easily shared by them... So just pure BH

I'm referring to your site-speed and on-site SEO.

Build a set of quality contextual backlinks from a diverse set of domains. Try looking for non traditional looking properties, not the same old set of Web 2.0s everybody else uses. And double check your PBN network, it may not be as private and footprint free as you think.

Spent shit load of time to do it right so I would say everything is in place when it comes to proper silo structure/onsite.
It's just my FEELING after the update that sending solely PBNs + some web20/citations/profiles for diversification doesn't bring CERTAIN results as it used to. However I might be wrong that's why I am asking for your opinions that when it comes to purely blackhat seo what sort of links/signals are a must in order to succeed....
