Just curious, if anybody has any knowledge of this? For instance services show up locally, but say I search something like acai berry, it just goes to the standard google search. So maybe services rank but products dont, then why would tires or mufflers show up. There are weightloss clinics that push acai berry but nothing shows up same thing for chai tea, it goes to standard search but on maps there are stores that are titled chai tea shop etc.

If anybody has read anything on this I would appreciate it, my preliminary search didnt find anything

As you know, Google likes to deliver relevant and "high-quality" results in the SERPs. When someone is searching for "acai berry", they can be searching for 1 of 2 things: an article about the health benefits of acai berry (Wikipedia, Web MD, etcetera) or an acai berry product. Because most people are searching for one of these two, Google chooses not to show local shops in the SERPs as this may not be relevant to what the user is searching for.

Now, when a user is searching for tyres and mufflers, they're usually searching for tyres adn mufflers to purchase them and not necessarily to read an article about the benefits of tyres and mufflers. There was probably a time when the local results didn't appear in the SERPs for these search queries, but after so many users searched for "Tyres in (city)" or "Mufflers in (city)" immediately after their previous search query (or they clicked on the local results more often), Google began showing local results in order to make searching easier for the user for the user to find what they're looking for.

so its basically just based off of user behavior over the long run
