On the exchanges, there're a ton of alternatives to Coinbase.

What's wrong with Coinbase?
I've been using them since 2013 and have never had any trouble with them, but I understand that everyone has different experiences.
Coinbase isn't perfect, but thus far, it's been perfect for me.
*knocks on wood*

Ouch!
I can see how that would be a major concern.
After a Google Search, I came across this page.
From the list, I've only used Coinbase and CEX.io, but to be clear, I haven't used CEX.io since they've completely redesigned their website. It actually used to function differently back when I was using it in 2013, so I cannot vouch for their updated business model.
That being said, you may want to check out that link and see if you can find something more suitable for your needs than Coinbase may be.

EDIT: Depending on the coin, you can also use Revolut (assuming you can buy Cryptocurrency with them), which seems to be your equivalent to our Robinhood.(where you can buy some Cryptocurrency from, but you'd need a US bank account).

Binance. No KYC til a certain amount (i believe 2 btc, could be wrong been a while, which will be way above what you’re planning to put in), just use a proxy and grab a temporary cell number from Google if you want to be more anonymous.

edit: woops forgot you meant cash to crypto. Havent tried binance with usd to btc so there probably will be kyc. Still would go with them as they havent given me a single problem in the past with non-kyc withdrawals of crypto to crypto

Work with Binance. the most secured exchange.
Regarding investments; I am not a financial adviser but If I had to invest in something to see short term gains I would go with ETH & Chainlink.
They are too cheap right now since the last market crash few days ago

what do you mean by short term?Couple of weeks/months?

In the US I have been using Coinbase and Bittrex and haven't had issues with either

I am investing right now on .eth domains. It is a groundbreaking topic and it will get famous over time as ENS (Ethereum Name Services) keep releasing new stuff to do with that domains.

I would rather invest that money in something smarter.

Crypto is like lottery. Even better to play online betting with that money then putting it in crypto , in my opinion

Yes and we can discuss too if you still having questions. PM me if you have further doubts.

Do not believe what others say about coin base. It is one of the most reputed exchange in the world.
