Gurus, experts, pros, etc. im looking for your help. I've started up a site, similar to twitter in terms of functionality but different in terms of idea behind it.

The site is built and ready, that was the easy part. Now how do I promote it. I'm looking for your opinions on the following :

The Best Tools (Programs and what to use them for)
The Best Methods
Quick and efficient ways to send people from twitter to my site.
Facebook pages (what should I do, focus on, etc)

and any and ALL other information that you guys think I'll need!

Thank You times a thousand in advance.

I think before diving into those promotional tools and plans that you should ask yourself first,

What do I offer that is different from Twitter?
How many people will prefer to use this over twitter?

If you can confidently answer those two questions then,

How much i'm willing to spend to promote my site?
What is my goal for this project in terms of hits/revenue

What do you mean by " similar to twitter in terms of functionality "? If your site is a twitter like system, then i must say it's kinda hard. Only 4,400 people googled for "twitter alternative" showing that people are already satisfied with twitter nowadays.

Anyway, good luck mate

I agree with Chipmunk951.

Are you selling ads on the site?

If yes, you could give away free ads for those that refer x number or members if you don't have the cash to pay for the leads or members up front.

I will put it to you as straight as possible. If your site is worth it, it will build itself extremely fast. Just look at MySpace and now look at Twitter and Facebook. If Facebook and Twitter weren't better in the users eyes, they would have failed and MySpace would be number one.

I wish you a lot of luck with your launch.

Good thing you asked that question, i'm not looking to compete with twitter at ALL. This site works like twitter in the sense that it's a microblogger, but it's not looking to compete with twitter.

I'm looking more for the important stuff I need to do and then I can set a budget based on that, should I focus on backlinking, social media, etc. and what are the best ways for everything that you guys suggest.

What you can't just be like twitter and borrow money and not make a profit and then claim to be a multi-millionaire living on money you borrowed from people?

It's the twitter way baby

Anyone else got more to add to this ?

One would think that you would have figured all of these things out before you started this project.

Anyways, you must figure out where your target market is. Then once you figure that out, go where they go.
