Hey guys, I just wanted to learn whether fake/bot traffic to the websites could affect ranking.
I think that would work if we mimic human actions with a bot, but I am unsure whether Google can detect it.
What do you think? Have you ever tried this on a keyword to rank up?

It can work short-term if behavior looks real( clicks, scrolls, time on site), But google's getting better at spotting patterns -use cautiously and always test on side projects first.
 
It might help short-term if bots act human, but Google’s smart—can flag it fast.
 
Bot traffic can be useful, as it shows search engines that your site is active and being visited, which can potentially improve your rankings.
 
We've never utilised it. Probably some case studies will suggest it has some value, but it's certainly not worth out time.

It worked on my side project. It took my keyword from 7th page to 3rd page. I tried 600-1k requests per day and I saw the increase even on the first days. I will increase it week by week. Also referrers play a crucial role in my opinion. Let’s see I will update the thread later on.

I’m sending traffic through the SERP and also from some social media posts. I’ve set some cookies to the browser and it looks fine. Also it’s visible on Google Analytics. It’s a local project so I can’t send a test for you. I just wanted to know whether it works for ranks in a long term.
 
The use of Traffic Bots is just accelerated CTR manipulation, the latter being a tactic that has been efficient for ages, and still work like charm in the professional SEO world, regardless of what many of those Backlinks selling SEO influencers say.

I have personally built multiple such automation for SEO agencies that use it to inflate numbers on GA, fooling not just Google and other SERPs, but also their clients in the process.

They work very fine on ranking higher for keywords, considering factors like competitiveness and if other SEO fundamentals have been taken care of properly of course. The key for such successful campaign and one where many fail to get it done properly, is on the implementation/execution of a long term strategy. The how and when to reduce or stop the generated traffic.

I don’t really understand the underlying logic of SEO either. I think it’s related to the underlying mechanisms of each platform.

Think a little bit out of the box and don’t use it on your own domain ;)
 
Yeah, bot traffic can definitely mess with rankings in the short term - especially if it’s acting slick, like clicking around the SERPs, hanging on pages just long enough, and using those residential proxies. Your game plan of scaling it up slow and mixing in some referrer traffic is solid. Thing is, Google’s 2025 algorithm is way sharper at spotting patterns, like bots all acting the same, weird proxy clusters, or visits with zero real engagement. So if you’re playing the long game, you’ll wanna back it up with actual content tweaks, legit backlinks, or even some local SEO. Bot traffic can give you a quick boost, sure - but it’s a booster, not the whole rocket.
 
Traffic bots? Skip them. Google spots fake clicks and you’ll just waste time (or get nailed). Go for real traffic.

Thanks, guys! This is just an experiment, and I would like to see what people think about fake traffic. I appreciate your input.
I stopped it a while ago due to my busy calendar, and I saw that my website went down a little bit, but still higher than the beginning.
For the next step, I'll focus on making it more manageable.
 
I’ve actually tested this a bit myself. Fake or bot traffic alone doesn’t really help rankings anymore. Google’s algorithms are way too smart now. They look at engagement quality, not just visits.
But yeah, if you mimic real human behavior — like scrolling, clicking different pages, time on site, etc. then it can make a difference short-term. Especially on low-competition keywords.
That said, Google’s getting better at spotting patterns. If the IPs are bad, behavior’s too perfect, or the bounce rate looks off, they’ll flag it. I wouldn’t rely on it long-term. It’s better to mix it with real engagement (e.g., from Reddit, Quora, or social traffic).
 
Bot traffic is just nothing, google can not detect much bot traffic but how you get the benefits?
 
If you ask if it has any impact, I think it does, but it may only have an indirect impact, because imagine, it will affect your user experience first and then affect the website's ranking.
 
Traffic bots are risky - Google's pretty good at detecting fake patterns and will tank your rankings if caught. Better to focus on real traffic sources unless you've got really sophisticated bots with residential proxies.

Traffic bots that mimic human behavior (clicks, dwell time, scrolls) can temporarily inflate engagement metrics, but Google’s algorithms are increasingly sophisticated at detecting inorganic patterns. Short-term boosts might happen, but long-term results rely on authentic user signals, quality content, and intent-driven SEO. I’d treat bots as experimental, not foundational.:)
