Hummingbird Update is NOT a penalty update. It is more of an optimization update than a spam reducing update. Its basically a change in how Google interprets the intent of a user's query to ensure the returned results are appropriate.
There is no need to worry about ranking loss if you have original, high-quality content, and you have high-quality and relevant websites linking to your own website.
