What do you regret most in IM?

We have all made mistakes, some of which can cost us a shit load of money.

My biggest regrets are selling off websites years ago for cheap that would have been big today. Also, taking a method too far which I got caught for right before my payout. Lost about $5k.

What are yours? ;)

my biggest regret - is a hard one to swallow - because ill always wonder.
its not IM but its a regret non the less.

me and my wife looked after my mom 5 days a week for many yrs
doing cooking/cleaning/shopping/gardening/ect
i noticed over the summer she had lost a little weight nothing major
i put it down to not eating enough so we made sure we made her more
meals than just her evening meal.

i had a doctor out to her in the summer to check her over but i was told
nothing of the results due to patient/doctor thing and that was that.
DEC 3rd i went round as i would to cook her meal and she couldn't get out
of bed, i called my wife/sister/doctor and we had her admitted to hospital
3 days later on my birthday DEC 6th she passed away in hospital, they said
it was personal neglect that she just let go.

havnt been to the grave since the funeral or shed a tear
since the day she passed, i just buried myself in bhw and
my proxies. i always wear my heart on my sleeve

I will always wonder what more i could have done

If I was asked one year ago it would be the regret of leaving the industry in 2001

If I was asked today it would be returning to the indusrty
 
losing 2 sites from #1 ranking for 110k search keyword(lost because of a f*king curiosity).
selling my restaurant business
 
When I was at the top of my IM Career, I stopped working just because I was persuaded to join a Day Job.

That's truly a heart wrenching story. Going by your post it's evident that you had given all that you could, but as the doctors mentioned, "Ut was personal neglect that she just let go", means you're not to be blamed. I think you need to accept the reality, but I know that it takes time, as they say that time is the best healer.

@OP: I believe that mistakes are integral part of humans. "To err is human". We can learn from our mistakes and move on, but regretting is not a good option.

Pretty much this. Granted I did have my first steps with internet tad before 2000, so I was already quite late, but it took me about 7 years to get my first website up, so... Although, in my defense, I was just 12.
 
Sticking with just one income stream for too long. OUCH! You've gotta diversify.
 
Tons of mistakes more than i can remember but no regrets.

Regrets don't make you move forward.

But to be compliant with the thread, i would say to not have set a Anti Fraud system earlier in our hosting business. It costs us more than $10k over the sole 2012 year.

Less social life. Sometimes less money (or even nothing). Hard to balance passive and active earning. People treat you like jobless trash unless you get to some position of earning which they feel like respecting. I don't think this is problem with IM but more of early struggling period, or even consistent struggling period for some for large period of time.
