Hey guys, I want to start an e-commerce store without dropshipping because of the long waiting times but also don't want to spend too much on inventory, so I came up with the following idea. Please give me your feedback on it.

I'll start a store in a certain niche, for example phone cases, called "cheap phone cases". Every week or two I'll only put up one product on the store, in the spotlight. I'll buy one type of phone case from AliExpress and sell it at a very cheap price on my store. It'd be like a deal site, where you can get 'one good deal every (two) week(s)'. Every one / two weeks I'll change the product, and once I'm making good money I can expand my inventory.

What do you guys think about this? Would it have any chance of success? Or don't you guys understeand what I mean?

It sound like a good idea but nobody will know beside if u test it. Ideas stay ideas u should test them to see by yourself

You can grow a great business with even 1 product store. You don't have to spend bucks for inventory. You just need to test, test and test and also be good marketer :) I'm owning ecommerce store in Slovakia and it's making me 600-900€ monthly by literally doing nothing (organic traffic). It's not a "big money" but I think you can scale with even 1 product :) Good luck!

True, I'll think more about the feasability and if I go ahead with it I'll create a journey thread.

Nice, are you dropshipping or keeping inventory? With how much money did you start?

If u make a journey I will most definitely follow it. :)

I'm from India. Someone already did this here. I think it was called The 3 Pm Store. Everyday at 3pm he would put one new unique product - a phone case, t-shirt, kitchenware, earphones etc. Ran it for a year. Not much success after spending a lot on Facebook and Google ads. Now he is doing a full fledged t-shirt store with 100+ designs (print on demand).

I think better than importing from China and risking it, it's better to start a print on demand store where production and fulfillment is done by a company local to you.

POD is extremely competitive and without good designs and a huge bankroll changes are you will fail in that...

@OP I like the idea I would not use that shit they are selling on Aliexpress, 99.99% of their products are utter garbage, try to find a local supplier you'll see lesser refunds and disputes

Thank you! I'm keeping inventory, because my product is small so I'm not paying anything for inventory. I started with 500€, 400€ for products (From China) and 100€ for theme, photos and other stuff..

Doing the same thing with local suppliers. The problem is dropshipping is just ecommerce in which you are a middleman so when you setup a store even with local manufacturers you are essentially doing the same thing and more so competing with dropshippers. There are plenty of courses for free here in member download section for dropshipping. Learn as much as you can. As someone who started his store in Jan this year and no marketing background, I must say that ecommerce has a very steep learning curve.

When it comes to people who shop frequently online they might be more inclined to purchase just because your website is something new and not just same old product page -> cart -> checkout
Like when those monthly boxes started pooping up, people saw something different and they liked the fresh feeling.

One more question guys: would it be wise to buy a couple thousand followers for my new IG business account? I want to approach influencers to promote the business for me, but I don't think they'd take me seriously if I just have like 50 followers.

I find serious influencers (which you would require for quality traffic) do a little due diligence before accepting to promote your business/offer. Not sure if my sentiments are shared, but it's VERY easy to spot or be alerted to fake Instagram followers. If I was you, I'd stick with the 50 followers and approach influencers, explain your concept/idea and how you are looking to build a quality following genuinely and would be very interested in partnering with them.
