What do you guys think about .net domains

Hi Guys,

I know that .com is the main top level domain when it comes to sites and ranking, but what about .net domain names?

I hear that .info domains are not necessary good for ranking, but what about .net domains in your opinion?

I've purchased a lot of .net EMD's and they are already indexed and ranking with no external seo being done. I've only done some good on-page optimization and my sites are sitting on second page of Google for keywords which get 2500-5000 exact search volume per month (competition like 2-5 million)

Also a word of advice from me, if you find an exact match domain which .NET & .ORG are both available, purchase them both. I mean for just $8 why should you leave it to a potential competitor of yours? :)

I have seen no difference in .net extensions. You can rank them just as easy as .com domain extensions.

Is it not clear enough that
Com = communication
Info = information
Net = network
Org = organisation
Edu = education
Gov = government ?

Use your TLD's in the right context and all of them will rank well.

Oh! I'll skip my basic SEO and ask stupid questions on BHW that'll rank me.

So now google is penalizing commercial sites will that
make rise for other TLD's.
And seeing that .com was originally administered by United States Department of Defense
does that not lead to a bias in regards to domain registration?

.net are not too bad but i prefer to take a .com when i can, for google ranking :=)
 
I love .net domains and will buy them when they are open for my keywords. They are fairly easy to rank for, but .info domains can also be ranked if you have the right combinations of factors in place.
 
just say i bought a .net because someone already has the .com, what do you think the chances are of users going to their site (the .com) instead? like if they type it into the address bar? do you think it's common? i personally remember sites/urls easily, but i'm not sure about other people.

i'm looking to buy a few domains tonight, the .com domains are taken, but the .net domains aren't. the .com domains are parked though. will that harm my site in any way other than what i asked above? there's nothing on their sites, just the usual parked domain ads and stuff.

That's perfect. A parked .com gives you a chance to build up your .net. It's true that some people might type in the .com in the address bar, but having a .net on the 1st page of Google is a much better situation to be in.
 
thanks for the reply! i'm definitely going to go ahead and by the .net of what i want. i wasn't entirely sure, and i've been sitting on it for a few days... and trying to make up names so i can get a .com.... but that's good. i'll get the .net now.

I bought 6 .net EMD domain first week of July.All are low SEO competition and around 3k to 5k exact monthly search.All are now postion 12 to 15 and hoping all will come to first page this next week.So nor problem with .net for ranking.But try to buy a EMD domain.
 
All the TLD's are good as long as you do a right keyword research and the proper SEO.

the extensions don't make sense, if you want to build a big brand, then .com is a popular one that rolls out the tongue easily and memorable too. So when ever you say that you own a brand on internet, just you can say the name, so people obviously check with .com as extension. For search engines, it doesn't matter what the extension is about. I own few .info sites which does well than the same name with .com and .net domains.
 
There's nothing wrong with having a .net I have 2 .net sites in 1st place on big G for my keywords.
