I know content is probably of highest priority but what about the look and feel of the site?

I am new to blogging and my first attempt is here www.wholesaleblogger.com

It was created from a template and changed to suit myself with home made graphics etc. I like the look of some templates and think thats as long as they are built well they should be ok, but is this right, is there any downside to this approach?

Please feel free to take a look and comment for improvements, I have a few tweaks I want to do myself. but its good to know what others think.

I am planning more blogs and so to have a idea of what is important from the start can only be a good thing?

Give me the URL's of blogs that you like the look of even if it is your own.

Thanks

I think your theme can change or even make it load faster when on the site

I would make the font similar to each other, not such a wide variety of scripts and block letter. And change the swirly font - it seems childish and girly.

I like your Logo, however the Slider Images e.g. Crispie's Cakes don't look professional at all, in fact they are pretty blurry/ugly.

I also think the Recent Article section should be below the Slider, not right at the bottom.

Your theme seems pretty clean and nice, but i am more of a classic so i find your blog organisation kind of ambiguous, and the animations from the menus it's pretty annoying, i prefer a static ones. but it's only my opinion.. the important thing is you don't forget: KISS (keep it simple stupid). Good luck with your blog!

Swirly font ... Which are you talking about?

I think the problem with the Crispies Cakes is the quality of the image used. I agree.. and the recent articles i was going to bring up the page to just below the slider

Thanks Denny, I like the menu :-) but i agree the site needs sorting to make clearer for the visitor use

A good blog is a blog that brings you traffic and what is most important MONEY :D
I have seen people with shit design blogs, but they were banking hard with them :)
People mostly look for solutions and not for good looking blogs...
Even twenty eleven can do the work if you know how to get the traffic and monetize it...

Like the theme. Hate the slider, don't get why everyone is so in love with sliders these days. In my personal opinion they don't add anything to user experience. Look at many major sites online and tell me how many run sliders. But other than that I love the design, loaded quickly for me with no issues.

I love the slider but you know you have made me think, maybe the slider could give way to make room for the content... Hmmmm Thanks for the reply

I love sliders from they look fancy and cool point of view. But not from a user experience point of view, they actually make it harder for users to survey all the content and take up a prime spot on site. I personally don't use sliders on any of my sites even though all the themes support them. I have the most recent content right up the top of the homepage.

Overall, your blog is looking good! Moreover, it is looking unique to me and you have well-optimized your Adsense.

I think what this thread has confirmed is that the design of a blog or site is subjective. What one likes another wont. I will continue to tweak it anyway

Thanks again all

Yep, a perfect design is the primary thing when considering to make a good blog or site...

No hesitation about content deserve the highest priority.
Guest blog post is also helpful. Site load capacity slow or fast, try to reply every comments posted and attach at least two articles in a week.
