What do you charge for SEO?

Not to hijack the thread... but this might helpful. What are the best SEO tools to start with for analysis. Someone told me WebCeo was good. There are tons of tools out there to use.

Am interested in this too.

Even better if its in the download section!

I only ever take on a few clients and always aim for a more short term project with them (either meaning i up the prices and do loads of work or go for a 3 to 4 month stretch) which obviously just depends on their budget!

Each project tends to evolve to become a bigger task simply because i like to over deliver. Such as the latest client asked me for top rankings for a local keyphrase and as an extra i got them both top rankings and secure that top spot from the competitors easily stealing it and also added them to google maps as an extra!

I base my prices on the competition but monthly prices work out cheaper for the amount of work done than one off fee but people seem to prefer one off fee's and then tend to opt for a cheap monthly fee for seo maintenance against the competitors which is minimal work each month but more checkup!

Now this isn't what I made, but what the firm charged. It also included PPC. $16.5K / month with a 2 year commitment which included any reasonable amount of work for the client. Any expenses also had a hefty markup.

Simply do a nice Google search and forum researches... Go with the flow and make ur price even a bit lower to get a nice start and encourage ppl to give u a shot..

A smart way would be to use a forumla imo to price per keyword something like Σblah/blah=$price

possibly use MS to determine this.

When it comes to selling search engine optimization to normal business owners don't charge them based on the work you provide, instead charge them entirely based on the RETURN they can expect.

In other words if you expect they could make several thousands dollars per month from a #1 ranking, charge them $1000 per month recurring... charge them more then you're comfortable with, because end of the day you need to think about the value you provide and not of the amount of hours of work you put in..

Well said. I "overcharge" for SEO then outsource it. My markup is about 4x what I actually pay to have it done. I do this on the side.

I read elsewhere in this forum that a first page SERP ranking is worth about the cost of a full page yellow page ad. That gives a GREAT way to justify high prices against something verifiable.

I always charge upfront and maintenace afterwards.
This is the best way to go.

I want to know where you guys find clients that pay so much each month! Email campaigns, cold calls, etc? Maybe it's just me that keeps running into cheapskates.

I have a client that wants me to build a website for a product that costs about $100K on average. Now, it's a very specified thing and they probably only sell a few a year. But they told me they only wanna pay a few hundred in SEO each month. My jaw dropped, didn't really know what to say to that. I'm a horrible salesperson though. :(

As someone who owns a successful web design firm, I would be hard pressed to find clients that would pay 1,000 per month. However we will charge an upfront fee and a smaller monthly payment with a guaranteed 24 month contract to lock them in and get the amount we want in the end. We tried charging a lot upfront and lost great potentials.

Charge depends upon the number of keywords, urls and mainly how much competition is there for keywords..

Totally agree! Also take in count the current means of your client. Don't miss a deal because you charged too much by $50 = that sucks.

Cheers.

Just wanted to see what the going rates are these days.
What do you charge upfront, and what do you charge for monthly services...for let's say, a 20 page site?

hmmm for a 20 page site we charge $1595 per moth and a minimum contract of 1 year

with 2 months payment as advance
