In starting you have to grow slow and manage to survive your account. Once you learn how to save your account it will take no time to scale because the hardest part on Reddit is to survive.
If you know how to survive on Reddit them Boom You are the King on Reddit.

Mostly personal stuff, but i've seen reddit work for projects if you post in the right subreddits.

Yeah Good things take time but on Reddit this does not add up. It totally depends upon your activities that you do on Reddit. Because Reddit don't care whether your account is 10 year old if reddit detect anything wrong or suspicious it will ban your account immediately.
 
Reddit is one of the highest-traffic websites in the world. And don't accept anyone spam.
 
Use it for both personal and brand promotion. It's enjoyable and effective.
