What did I miss this time?

Hi Friends

This is my first attempt at targeting the page 1 for google.
I was indexed by G a week back (24 - 48 hrs) but still appear somewhere on the 30th page or something.

These are my site details:

1) New Domain (3 weeks old) with keyword in the domain.
2) Set up a one page site with keyword density at 3%, keyword in title, meta, etc
3) Has adsense on it.
4) Has about me, privacy policy, terms and conditions and Contact me pages.

Promotions that I have done.
Pinged to all sites mentioned somewhere here itself. That helped me get indexed.
Wrote Blogs for 15 sites (also on BHW) woth good PR and backlinked to my own site and also inter linked them.
Pinged each of the blogs that I vreated.

I still do not feature close to any improvement.

Also my primary keyword is not too competetive. With only one site with the keyword in the domain (a .net one) on the first page.

I dont know if it is too early to ask but that site does not have any backlinks as per backlinkwatch.

I dont know what to do now. However I have planned on the following
1) Create a youtube video and promote that one.
2) Submit articles to article directories like ezine and go articles.
3) Get on with the backlinks thing and create like 500 backlinks in 3 days.

What I actually want to know is am I doing the right thing, or do you people suggest something else as well. If you were in my place what would you have done?

Also I forgot to mention..I did do social bookmarking on the sites.....Guys waiting for your valuable comment..

Correct. Get relevant backlinks from active site/forum is enough.

500 back-links for a relatively new domain is too much too quickly you are likely to be sand-boxed for that, you cannot expect to be number 1 on Google in a couple of weeks.

Google will make you jump through hoops before you get to No1, your site will rank well for a week or so then drop out of the rankings for a while then reappear, just keep building back-links slowly no more than 10 per week and make them good quality high PR and related to your site.

All my backlinks have been with my keyword as the anchor text. All anchor texts in bold except those in social bookmark sites.

Do relevant backlinks mean from competitors. Also do we also look into the PR of sites where we post link.

I think it usually takes a little time before a website gets out of the initial phase of google and starts getting traffic. Just my personal experience is it takes around 2 months for google to start trusting your website. Just make sure you don't push your website into the google sandbox in the meanwhile.

Mate I have seen a website in my own niche registered a week before mine and on the first page. That really is the reason for my post. Though it would be good to know, how long, on an average does it take for your sites to come on page 1.

I know but how long do you think I should continue with the 10 backlinks thing?

Also what I do understand is that the solution is to create backlinks, steadily and from high ranking sites. However, I also notice that that site that I see on page 1 I find no backlinks there (I check with backlinkwatch). Now I was just wondering are there any other ways to get on the first page than extensive backlinks.


P.S.: Sorry guyz for the late reply! My HDD was about to crash so today I got a new HDD and was installing and hence the delay......

10 per week is too low..

In my case ive stayed safe with 20 backlinks per day and that site is ranking at number 7 on page 1 of google..

also you should be careful to keep changing your anchor text.. somtime using the Click here anchor as well..

if you keep using the same anchor for all links you WILL get sandboxed for that keyword

That is good info. I was using my keyword as my anchor and I have been done that for almost 50 of my backlinks yet. Do you think harm has been done.
