Can anyone give me a concrete example of something that hummingbird actually changed? I've read article after article on all the industry blog sites that have been incredibly vague on what it did or what affect it had. Did any of you notice anything? A query that all of a sudden had a satisfactory answer? an industry, maybe an information based one, where traffic dropped cause google was answering the question?

Haha that song is going to be stuck in my head all day now, haven't heard that one in years!

But really, I haven't noticed any difference at all after this hummingbird update. Not in the search, or on my sites.

Work of hummingbird is to "put less emphasis on keywords and more emphasis on the context of a user's search."

Not really much from what I can tell. However, many sources state it is for longer queries. So, "how to choose a local vet for my dog" may lead to actual queries for local veterinarians in the area versus some mundane article mentioning Yelp and whatever other factors are needed.

    Home Page:
Hummingbird is part of Google?s ongoing transition from simple keyword-based search to the promotion of a more conversational mode of interaction. Keywords are limited because they fail to account for user intent and multiple meanings (polysemy). A lot of information can be brought to bear in order to figure out user intent, including location data, social media data, semantic analysis, and the relationship between queries. We wrote a post about it here - http://www.aseohosting.com/blog/2013/10/google-overhauls-its-algorithms-hummingbird-explained/ - hope it's not too vague :)
