What Counts As Engagement on Instagram?

Since you can just purchase likes and comments what actually counts as engagement on IG?

I was interested in purchasing a few shout outs from various IG accounts so I wanted to see what is the best way of checking to see if their followers are real or not.

How to check whether the account has real followers or not?
1.Use this website - hypeauditor.com
2.Message the account before buying a shoutout to record his phone video showing his story views,insights and audience location.To be more secure,tell him to do something unique within the video so you know he isn’t lying to you (eg: Write your name in Notes)

Mostly Likes and Comments count as an engagement but shares and saves also give it a small hand:)

Gotcha, thank you for the advice. I am new to IG marketing and was interested in buying shoutouts but need to make sure the accounts have real followers and quality engagement.

The site you mentioned, how do you know they can see if the followers are real or now?

I appreciate the input!

There must be some criterias through which they judge this.

Some of them about which I can think of is Engagement Rate,Quality of Followers,Checking Igblade/Socialblade stats to see sudden spikes,Manual Check to approve the final process(maybe).

There can be more than this,really depends what does the site do and how far does it go to give the maximum accuracy.Anyways you should yourself check even if you have a site to do this as a final clearance.
 
Most of them have fake followers in IG. Check what % of fake vs real followers they have.
There was a tool for that in the old days but it got Zucked
 
From point of view of Instagram ads, any action the viewer takes on the ad post is counted as an engagement. This includes liking, saving, sharing, commenting, tapping on "read more", tapping and visiting your profile, and tapping on your CTA.
 
If you look at influencers profile go through their post see if the engagement rate makes sense

30k followers but some post have 100 likes other have 20k likes? Questionable..

Ask them to send you a couple of snaps of their analytics, see if majority of impresion/interaction are coming from home/hashtags/explore the higher the stats on those areas the more legit it i
 
As everything with Instagram - it's about the quality rather than quantity. If your posts are engaged by legit accounts that are from your region and spend more than a second to view your content - you will gain much more engagement wise.

Engagement is still very much important, there's no way around it. It's just a matter of quality now.

Right, but I am not looking to grow my own IG account, rather looking to purchase shoutouts and so I need to know what to look for. I know just because you have 100k followers, doesn't necessarily mean your account is legit.

I agree with both of you that the engagement is super important, and that is what I am trying to find out as part of my screening process :).
