I'll tell you what's "unnecessary". Telling other people they shouldn't be proud. That's the only unnecessary thing I see happening in this thread.

When I see people saying, "proud to be from xxx" it puts a smile on my face. It reminds me there's a great big huge wonderful world around me. So many proud and happy people. Living in areas and doing things I'll never see or experience cause the world is just too damn big for that. And there's something profoundly beautiful about that fact. You can politicize it as "patriotism" but it's really just people who are happy to be alive.

I am PROUD to be American. PROUD of where I was born. PROUD to be Italian. PROUD to be PROUD.
