I'm sick and tired of removing spam from my sites, and also there's no option to not receive email notifications from these comments so I want to change the comment platform to something else. What do you guys recommend I use? I want something that doesn't allow links, but something which google actually indexes.

" also there's no option to not receive email notifications from these comments"

there is an option also you can use an antibot plugin

Disqus comments don't get indexed :/

Did you try Akismet plugin? This is the best plugin for blocking spam comments

I always use the built in comment system for wordpress. I see no point in using external services. If you use Akismet you'll cut down a good 90% of all spam comments. If you also install Bad Behavior you kill off a few more percentage points.

On my most active sites I have a few that get past these plugins but not very many. 3 or 4 a day. Without these plugins I would be getting 100's of spam comments daily that I would have to wade through to find the actual comments.

Akismet and Bad Behavior work for me.

Yes you can enable email notifications and yes akismet is the best option to filter those.. but don't think just because the comment platform doesn't provide links that the spam will stop. I have about 200 "product reviews" on one of my magento stores (cannot post live links) everyday for pharma/gambling crap...

I swear one day I will start a thread here to try and find out who it is.. i'm sick of going through thousands of comments each week just to approve the handful of genuine customer product reviews :(

Thanks for your answers. Anyway I can disable email notifications? I can't find the option anywhere.

Another useful one is "Comment Luv" which is free, also has the benefit of allowing the commentor to have a link to their own last post, it detects spam and works very well.

1. As previously mentioned you can disable the notifications but it will be valid only for posts posted from that moment on.
2. Add facebook comments instead. You will most likely receive less comments, but no spam 99.9% of the time.

use a plugin called are you human and disable email notification. if you are lost I'll help you for free via team viewer.

I use Facebook comments for a few sites without any problems. I use a captcha and akismet for my other blogs and there is hardly any spam coming through.

for blocking spam comments use this

Code:
http://areyouahuman.com/

search wordpress plugins to install it

Exactly what I needed, thanks a bunch!

I would still recommend using Facebook comments and / or captcha because if you have a blog that has decent rankings in search engines you will get an enormous amount of emails letting you know about comments. You will also have a huge stack of comments to moderate in the dashboard.

Facebook comments don't get indexed, and also I just disabled email notification :)

Is there any way I can remove the 'Homepage' field when users enter a comment?

I'm pretty sure that they do get indexed. At least I found a Facebook comment when I googled myself. I'm not sure if just the names get indexed but I'm pretty sure the comments do too.
