Been using the MEGA Lite account (400GB) for a couple of years now without any issues but now I would like to upgrade my storage and I am looking into Google Drive 2TB storage plan.

I see the plan includes up to 5 seats so I am planning on sharing it with a couple of family members but, wondering, is the 2TB shared among all 5 seats, or does each seat gets 2TB worth of storage?

Does anybody have experience or is currently using a paid Google Drive account? Do you think I should stay with MEGA? What other cloud storage service are you using/recommend?

Damn sure mega is not as privacy hogger as Google. Then again we are using the Internet.

I would suggest keep using Mega. I have a low tier plan and it does the job.

Deleted my last reply as I totally thought you were talking about servers as in for hosting apps. As for storage, I do it locally currently. I have a hardware solution for backup. For the most sensitive data, I use icloud. For projects, I use git. For storing large blob, I use my hardware solution.

I'm in the middle of making sure I have everything from my local on my google drive, and then with another external hard drive download the entire google drive and keep offsite. Just on the 200GB plan at the moment, but growing it, I don't recommend the sync app that syncs your drive to google drive, as the last time I used that many years ago, it totally creamed my folder structure and content, and I couldn't access it properly. Maybe I was just noobing it at the time with the wrong setting though.

I use Mediafire. No issues so far with the service.

If you compare it with Google Drive, then Mediafire is cost effective too.

That 2tb is shared. Each user gets 15gb of personal space (which is free for every google account) and the 2tb is shared for all accounts.

From what I can see, the pricing for 2tb storage on both Mega and Google is about $10/month or about $100/year. So prolly doesn't matter from a cost perspective. Drive integrates well if you use other google products like Docs tho.

I personally just use a NAS that I built out of an SBC and some jbods.

If you want to check out some other services tho, maybe check out Microsoft's OneDrive. They offer 6tb of storage for 6 users at the same 100$. Each user gets 1tb of space. Along with office apps.

As much of a privacy hogger Google is, there are some standard major cloud providers need to comply with.

Google, like other big players, encrypted your data at transit and at rest. That means, your files get encrypted when you upload them to google drive, and stay encrypted when Google stores them.

Same is for almost all bigtech cloud storage providers. They will encrypt your data at transit and at rest.

Ever considered a NAS?
Never heard of it before

mediafire

I´ve used Mediafire before but mostly as a file sharing option not as my main cloud storage alternative

Damn, didn´t realize this.

For 1TB is $45 p/year (if paid annually), that´s a pretty sweet deal. Right now, I am paying like $60 for the MEGA Lite account that offers 400GB.

I have the following two
Google One (2 TB) Plan.
Microsoft 365 Family Plan

Be careful when you upgrade to the Google One Plans.

This is not true @Ashk881, You don't get 15 GB + 2 TB, the account holder gets 2TB directly. They lose the 15gb of free gmail quota

While, sharing means, everyone shares the 2TB together. Meaning 5 seats sharing 2 TB.
However, the people you are sharing uses their "free 15GB" first, once they uses all their free quota, then they start using the Google One Plan's quota.

Microsoft 365 Family plan on the other hands, each seat (up to 5 more) gets their own 1TB each. (So 6TB total)

I have microsoft 365 since I heavily use more MS office apps over Google's office apps, and the personal password vault is very nice too.
While Google is just alot simpler and heavily integrated in daily life stuff, especially when storing stuff, mainly pictures from phones. Especially for the family where technology isn't a strong point.

I personally would trust using Google/MS over MEGA anyday even if it's a bit more $

You can try out Ace http://ace public cloud they provide affordable, secure, and high-tech cloud solutions and give $300 free credits when you sign-up. I use it for my business.

Everywhere you see restrictions on webbosting- small disk storage like 3gb, 5gb, 15gb....

Is it not better to store text content and Images in external cloud storage, share the link and embed it in your wordpress site?

But does this Not cause egress traffic and the cloud provider charge me extra costs?

Honestly: self-hosted is the way to go if you care about security and longevity. There are too many data leaks and hacks going on. The other issue is when cloud services shut down. I've always hosted my own data, and I use a triple cron backup to keep things safe locally and duplicity to back files up off site. The disadvantage is that it takes way more setup, maintenance, and know-how to get started.

Switching to TeraBox was the best decision for my storage needs. TeraBox has exceeded my expectations with its unlimited cloud storage. The 1TB free storage is perfect for all my files, and the user-friendly interface makes accessing and sharing files easy and quick. Plus, the encryption provides great security. I also appreciate the automatic backup feature, which ensures I never lose important files. Highly recommended!

If you have a legal business you can use hetzner cloud storage
But mega servers are very fast.
