What can I make to sell on Etsy?

Right now I have around $5k to invest into small time operation, I was thinking I buy stuff to flip on Etsy. Etsy takes quite the fee so there needs to be big profit margin I'm not looking for dropshipping or any other funny business just real legit business. What can I make or design to sell on the Etsy platform? (I'm thinking a video game niche might be where I start)

Physical supplies are pretty much always in demand on Etsy, something you can combine for others to use in their crafts. I'd stay away from digital for now as it is a race to the bottom fueled by bots.

Yes, homemade unique things usually sell very well on Etsy.
 
Go spend a week on etsy just browsing what you like the look of in as many niches as possible, see where your curiosity takes you from jewerely to boxes (I've seen people sell empty boxes decorated nicely) and tees, whatever might spark another idea in your mind. Then that can be your first draft battle plan! Off to the battle you can then go :)

Print on demand services are very trending and hot selling on Etsy. For example offering notebooks designs etc.
 
Think about what you have in your area what is quite unique and utilize it. I give you an example. I live in croatia, an island nearby is famous for lavender (the flower) harvesting, dry the lavender and sell it on Etsy. Or maybe your area is well known for wine? Get some old wine cask or scrap wood from the cask and make something nice from it. You live in an topical area? Find out about rare or sought after plants from your area, get seeds in bulk and sell them. Always give your own little twist on everything, make nice packaging etc. hope that helps you a bit.

you can use tools like erank to see popular stores and then just see what works best and just find niches with high demand and reasonable competition
 
In the gaming niche you can make a portrait of the character of customers' choice or you can partner with someone who is good in making portraits

Where are you getting the grinders? And do you stock them yourself?

It looks to me that those selling grinders are smoke shops that stock them - how to compete with these people?
