What can I do to help boost site traffic?

Hello Black Hat World, I come to you today with a request.

I'm currently employed at a gaming news/reviews website that is getting its monthly funding cut by the parent website starting in the middle of June. We currently only have about 1000 unique visits per day and I'm wondering how can I possibly boost traffic and in turn get more advertising. We currently have no outside businesses buying advertising on the site (since we have such a low amount of traffic), so getting more traffic is our number one priority.

The site usually has 10 to 12 articles published per day (all unique) and we can't think of anything else to do to increase traffic (we have a Facebook/twitter/Google + Group/etc./ already).

Try these things:
- Engage your community, don't just simply publish to it. Ask them what they think. Get people talking.
- Build your community by getting guest authors and RTing relevant tweets from people you follow on Twitter.
- Start selling ads while your traffic is cheap.
