I'm just curious as to what methods people have tried that they found the least effective in terms of boosting their site via blackhat methods. Do you have something that youve tried and doesnt work, yet everyone else tells you its amazing? Have you ever done something that negatively impacted a site, while everyone else on the board says its the best thing ever? Post your experiences here!

Too high a percentage anchor text for the main keyword. A serious problem with all the recent google updates.

when creating lot of backlinks without looking to set proper on page seo then things might not go your way. Also you need to vary the anchor text to create a stable platform. heavy social bookmarking is not useful these days.

Everything works for me in the right proportion done the right way. What doesn't work is being careless and not thinking logically about how my link building activities might potentially raise a red flag with Google.

I got a bunch of "private blog networks" from some BST's on here right before G went crazy and de-indexed ALN and others, learned my lesson the hard way.

And I third that! Sunk a truckload of money into blog posts on networks. But guess that's how we evolve ;)

Blog networks destroyed my website and forum profiles, or any profiles for that matter.
