this is a realy basic too but if you use a soelf hosted wordpress install you definitly want to have jetpack up to date since they have added PUBLICIZE wich was only aviable for wordpress dot com blogs
publicize is a publishing tool (no realy? xd) wish send automaticly your new post to your twitter facebook ect social website
a realy basic tool that most people know but i cant do without it
also any sitemap tool is a must have
there is also few other nice tool aviable in the new version of jetpack

Backup buddy. Surprised no one mentioned a backup plugin yet.
I love wordpress, but sadly it is susceptible to hackers depending on certain themes, etc. You gotta make sure you have a backup of your hard work!!!
