What are your impressions on WordPress Updates

What are your impressions about the WordPress updates?

  • They are rock solid, rarely I got an issue, I update blindly with full confidence (full auto)

  • They are reliable, with random issues now and then, I update w/ a little eye on the process (manual)

For many years, I've received mixed opinions on the whole WordPress ecosystem reliability. One thing that was came to my mind some months ago, was going in a little deeper on the review and testing process that is being delivered inside the WP developing trenches.

After getting a big insight about the inside guts, I would like to know your opinion:

What are your impressions about the WordPress updates? Think about the reliability, do you think that the testing team is doing a good job? Or the updates miss more than a fun fair rifle?

I update every release, but i have my backups set to last 5 too, so not had a problem, I only had one issue from about 20-30 sites, of a a plugin not updating correctly.

It's a good practice definitely, I think I should not have mixed the updating practices with the reliability sense.

In my case I update bleeding edge almost on automatic but I feel that reliability has not been best overt ime.

Well, there are sometimes some issues/errors due to comptablities mostly,
I keep auto updates enabled with an automatic daily backup schedule for both the website(s) files/database,
Backups are a must, for a variety of reasons, that many people negligate and have to learn that the hard way
 
I don't do full auto unless it is a really basic site with very little plugins and generatepress theme. But to be honest, haven't had a problem with an update in years really. Realized the problems I had before was from using old themes from Themeforest or some random plugins that are not updated. Without this random stuff I've never had a problem with WP updates.
 
Occasionally I have comparability issues but generally I find them ok.

Backups are a must though. Personally I keep 180 days backups, not just for update rollbacks but any issues that arise, especially if sites ever get infected with malware; even if it goes unnoticed initially, I have the ability to roll back.
 
I always keep a backup of the sites before updating WordPress. I haven't experienced any significant issues with updates. So, I am kinda satisfied with the WP updates the developers are releasing.

Can`t ever remember last time I had an issue with updates, very rare, I also do automatic updates, make the foundation solid and you almost never have any problems. I don`t do Woo sites though so I can`t say anything about those.
 
I’ve hardly ever had issues with core WordPress updates in the past 15 years. The only problems I’ve encountered were with plugin updates, and even those were manageable.
 
I have created most of my adult sites using wordpress, the updates never compromised.
 
I usually wait a month or two before updating if it's a big update.
 
I always take a quick backup first just feels safer, especially with a few plugins acting up now and then.
