What are your check lists while hiring your seo guy?

most people hiring seo guys have no clue what they're doing. here's what actually matters:

first, ask them to walk through a real site they've worked on, not just "i ranked #1 for xyz keyword" bs but actual organic traffic growth with screenshots. if they can't show you google analytics or search console data, run. also check if they understand technical seo basics like page speed, core web vitals, and schema markup.

second thing is see how they talk about link building. if they mention pbn networks or "guaranteed backlinks packages" that's a red flag unless you're cool with potentially getting penalized. good seo guys will talk about content marketing, digital pr, and earning links naturally. oh and if they promise first page rankings in 30 days... just no. seo takes time, anyone saying otherwise is probably gonna burn your site.

For one second I thought I mistakenly was in WF. I had to double check the sites url.

First you should ask for their portfolio related to the job description. Ask them to perform an Audit share feedback about the project.. Also check if they promise guaranteed ranking, it is a big Red flag,, or they try to convince you to do PBN and link blast etc for quick boost in rankings,, Don't hire them..
this way you'll get only temporary rankings but then directly hit in upcoming Google Update.. You'll never able to recover again from those link blasts and bad practices

If they can’t explain their process in plain English, I move on

Language barrier can be there in some cases. If they are competent, should be considered.
