what are these domain name extensions? what's going on?

i ordered a fiverr gig which claims to do .edu blogs. the results i get:

xxx.edu.tr.vu

what is that? i looked it up, .tr is turkish, .vu is another country. what in the world is going on? how do you add .tr.vu at the end of a famous .edu university domain?

this has nothing to do with that university, does it? it seems to me, he bought a domain tr.vu, and add a subdomain 'xxx.edu'?

will this kind of backlinks still be useful?

Yeah it's just a scam. He may as well be offering links from stanford.edu.tumblr.com

i told him i like the articles he posted but they might be better off posted on weebly etc. without any reply i got an automatic refund lol. i checked the blog and now it shows free domains .tr.vu and some accounts have been suspended already.

.edu blogs are hard to find being frank , i have also started a gig regarding edu blogs .
