What are the risks of owning a warez site even if its hosted offshore ?

Could I face a lawsuit or something ?

No not really. Even when posting Microsoft content the worst they do is contact the datacenter and request the material be removed.
Only if you become a real thorn in their side repeatedly do they step things up and try and find out who you are etc.,

Just be flexible and work with your hosting company. If they ask you to remove something - remove it. 1 file isnt worth the removal of your entire account.

I am not a lawyer, but from everything i have read, The big boys really dont like it when you sell illegal copies.

I'm not a lawyer either but there have been instances where the GMan has came after companies even with doing business or hosting offshore (think about E-Gold)

I work at a hosting company that isnt even offshore - its US. If its warez linking the complaint usually requests that we have the files removed - and forward the client information. However forwarding such information is a breach of privacy UNLESS a subpoena is issued so we don't. We just contact the client - notify them of the file to be removed and let the complainant know that its been taken care of.

However, since in RARE cases a subpoena CAN be issued, offshore is good. :) Doesn't work over there. hehe

offshore, sign up with the datacentre with fake info, use private proxies to do your work, and ur good ;)

Do sites like these convert a lot ?

I doubt these sites convert good.

And the risk is definitly not worth it in my eyes.

If you run a torrent site offshore it shouldn't be much of a problem, concidering you're not directly distributing the "illegal" content. Take a look at The Pirate Bay's replies to legal threats:

All I was trying to say was you always hear about the guy selling the copied dvd software titles. He is not trying to sell. I understand that.

what about domains? they could track your domain, even if you used whois privacy, and/or bogus information.

They could tell from what account, or cc number the payment came from.. etc..

or am I being too paranoid?
