What are the risks when installing Chrome extensions?

I've read that some people lost their assets (such as social media accounts, cryptocurrency, etc.) when they used untrusted extensions. It seems that people are selling social accounts without needing passwords, just browser cookies, which can be obtained using unknown extensions.

I'd like to ask experienced members to share safety standards when using extensions. Can scammers obtain our cookies from any extension? Does Google Chrome have any security measures for this?
