What are the MUST HAVE plugins for SEO on Wordpress?

I just created my first site .. I have 6 keywords so far, and my domain name is broad enough to build an authority site under.

I have installed wordpress, and I am looking for a good theme now. I have 2 questions:

Does the theme affect SEO? Will a free theme be inferior to a paid/custom theme?

What are the 'must have' SEO plugins?

I appreciate the help guys!

Yes the theme can effect SEO, so try and find a nice clean coded fast loading theme. And one of the must have plugins is WP super cache, this will help speed your site up.
 
Yes theme does impact the SEO in multiple different ways. In addition the more appealing the site is to the viewer the more time they are likely to spend on your site, increasing the chance of ad clicks.
 
For themes: Theme-junkie, elegantthemes, thesis, genesis etc..

Must have plugins: SEO by yoast, Antispam Bee, W3 Total Cache, Wp-Optimize, Bulletproof security..
 
I just noticed my host's cpanel can enable cloudflare. Try that Cloudflare with W3 total cache. Read through all of the options for yoast SEO.

P3 performance profiler to check page speed. Wordpress ping optimizer. 404 to Start. Copylink. Microdata for wordpress, or use your own hand typed microdata.
