Are they like article directories but with more authority? Do they accept only high quality and original content? Are there any free ones? Most importantly does it help in SEO?

Thanks

yes in a way if you use the free ones they are kind of like article sites. Now most go a different way on posting press releases.

Now there are a few different type of press release that you can do. You can do the post to all the free news sites that IMO are junk because they get spammed just like all the article sites. Now they are counting less and less.

If you have a real press release then there are a few companies that you can go to that will submit the press release to different news stations and so on. You can do this yourself if you have time. Most of these never get covered in the news but they do tend to put the press release up on the web.

So all the free ones are junk? Can i submit duplicate content?

Spend the money if you can and try the real PR sites if your doing work for a client not just on the merit of SEO. PR web which is not the best but decent for SEO is 2750 for unlimited pr's for a year.

Press Release sites are like news sites.. You can post your product or service related news there.. There are many sites which syndicate (copy) news from Press Release sites and post them to there site. You must write original and relevant contents for Press Release..

Free press release sites can be good but there are very few that will actually give you a live link back to your site- and the ones that do are typically low pr sites that people spam the crap out of anyway. Needless to say Google probably doesn't give these sites much relevance and that includes the backlinks they provide.

The best way to use press release marketing is to go with a good service that syndicates your story to tens of thousands of different news sites and journalists. This method can give you a TON of backlinks and exposure.

How many websites actually run your story is based on the quality of your press release as well as the announcement your making. Some press release services actually write and syndicate the press release for you but most of the time these services are very expensive (expect for a rare few).

I suggest Googling the term "press release distribution" and search the first few pages for the best service with the best prices. It's definitely worth the investment.
