Just curios to see how you're all judging competition in terms of whether or not a kw is worth going for? I've previously been using "" match and all in title but I'm wondering if they are the best metrics.

The keyword prices at CPC auctions(adwords is one), semrush and market samurai give good insight into kw's, and so on. There are plenty of kw research tools if you search.

I use ahref's to check out the top sites, I look at da and pa and see if I can beat it. I also might browse a bit through their backlinks and check the quality of them.

Google competitiveness is measured by adwords, i think it is not connected with the ranking toughness.

I would like some insight into this too.... I thought I was going for relatively easy keywords but having a difficult time ranking them.

What if you're new at SEO and have no idea what you can beat/ outrank yet? What PA/ DA would be considered easy to outrank? Do you look at the quantity of EL a site has also?

Opensiteexplorer is pretty useful for checking out your competitors links.

As a general rule of thumb try and use mixed sources to give you a look at the bigger picture. Different sites/software can give different results.

The best way is honestly to develop a "feel" for it. you get this after doing tons of seo and seeing different types of searches/your results.

DA/PA is bollox. Not exactly something to take completely seriously.

Try and look at as many metrics as you can. Software like market samurai is a good start is it loads quite a few metrics at once so it gives you a quick clear picture but also have a look through sites such as majestic SEO etc. They can also be good sites to help find good quality backlinks once you choose your keywords.

i'm using semrush for analyzing the competition of the keyword, it explorers the organic results for the keyword.. after viewing the organic results, i just try opensiteexplorer for checking whether it is easy or hard to compete with those sites..
