what are people using proxies for?

Are you asking what a proxy is? Or what we each use them for?

what people are using them for

To avoid all of our comments showing up on blogs with the same IP address.

Lots of reasons - running multiple social media accounts, appearing to be in a different country, email accounts and anything else which needs a degree of anonymity.

table tennis. you need expensive dedicated proxies for tennis. noob.

well if you're the kind of person that likes to play tennis completely anonymously and doesn't want to share your tennis court with other people, then dedicated proxies is definitely for you. however, publicly scraped proxies usually get me through about 1-2 hours of play.. i'm not a professional player, just leisure. ;)

The proxy funnels our web inquiry thru the server that the proxy uses, so it doesn't look like it came from your computer.

This has practical uses. Keyword research and scraping creates a lot of Google queries. By using proxies, these inquires do not come from the same IP address, and they do not get temp banned.

When creating backlinks, a proxy helps it look like you, the site owner, did not leave the link because it did not come from your IP address.

If you were to visit a site, say one that you were not a member of, and somehow you had found the link for a download (ahem), but had not really joined the site or purchased a product, and you visit the site, your IP address will not be logged, your proxy IP address will. It will look like you never visited, because the server logs will record the proxy IP address.

People are using proxies to hide their IP and location. Mainly used for SEO, Hack and Craigslist ad posting.

Hide their ip , and usually use multiple 'something' to get benefit , for example twitter account creating .

To avoid lawsuits and to stay out of jail.

It's mainly use to hide IP addresses to be used in SEO purposes, and to avoid getting banned.

A proxy server is used as a middle-man for data from browsers to websites on the internet. There are many advantages of using a proxy server, both for the user and the organization offering internet access to the user. In general, proxy servers are used to improve performance, enhance security, and hide activities from others also for creating multiple accounts on the same websites etc... When access to certain websites is blocked, using a proxy server it allows the user to regain access by contacting the proxy server as an intermediary that isn't subject to blocking. Most proxy servers cache large and frequently accessed data. If the proxy server is located close to the user, web browser performance will be much faster because the request will be returned from cache. Web users who do not want their activities tracked by websites can use a high anonymous proxy to hide their IP address from the websites they're accessing. If you are using a proxy your ISP can view the websites you are accessing, if you want to really hide your identity online you will have to use a VPN, the connection to the vpn server is encrypted , so your ISP will be able to see only a encrypted connection, and it will not be able to see what websites you are accessing ... I hope this helps ...
