Well, links are probably the most important but don't sleep on relevancy, they are essential too.

You probably should learn how to use the search function before learning SEO though.

The foremost one is Keyword research - It is the important factor to display your website in SERP page. Your keyword should be in URL, meta description, H1 tag, title tag and also in your content but don't stuff it too much.

Content on your site - You should provide high-quality content, descriptive and should be communicative to the readers.

Outbound Links - Get links from the trusted high authority domains like webgazette.co.uk The Domains from which you get link should be relevant to your site.

SiteMap - Create a sitemap for your site that helps Google to crawl and index your site quickly.

Content is a king, as it is often said.
Backlinks are important as well.
Dont forget to configure robots.txt and sitemap.
