What are good practices for finding a niche

Hello everyone. I was wondering what are some good practices to do in order to find a good niche. My problem is always finding a good keyword. Whenever I come across a keyword that I think is good, the seo competition always seems to be too high.

I guess I"m always trying to find niche's with little or no competition but I"m not sure how to go about doing this.

How you analyse the keyword competition? Only by using adwords keyword tool? if yes, you may try traffic travis. It's somewhat more accurate.
 
I look for keywords that buyers would use. Buyers aren't searching for things like "how do I install" or "fix my...". Buyers use phrases like, "buy..." "what is the best..."

I use market samurai's seo competition tool.

I see, that helps a bit. I guess I need to make some sort of structure. Normally I try to think of keywords in my head and see what MS comes up with then check the seo on them. It takes time though...

guess I need some sort of "think outside the box" ideas.
 
I use NicheCracker and LongTailPro to find buyers keywords for my niches.
 
You can use NicheCracker and Market Samurai, those are all good tools to find niches.
