What are Backlinks?

I see posts all the time talking about Backlinks and High and Bad quality ones.
I recently came across a free blacklinks thread on the forums and Im wondering how to use it.
It wants a website and email.
website = youtube video?

I see viralsocial is down fixing stuff and someone said they use backlinks now so it has gotten me wondering if there is another way.
If someone could explain to me what backlinks are and how they work that would be amazing!

I think you posted a great question. Most of us who may have a back round in a similar vertical but not SEO or link building usually will post a question. I have many times before, although now I know to look things on here up first and then ask lol. No need to be poor sport about it.
