What Am I Missing?

I am a newbie, of course, but I have to ask about something that seems painfully obvious. I'm sure I'm not understanding something correctly.

Many posts refer to mysterious Google banning. It would seem that google would be able to easily correlate a users ip address with their google searches on various topics and keywords google would consider to be associated with what they consider bad activities. It would seem natural that they store, somewhere in there, all the google searches a user makes. Or perhaps start storing them once, say, someone searches on 'blogslammer' and other terms. It would be easy for them to match that to ip addresses for originators of, say, adsense accounts. Now, the answer would be to use proxies, but (1) I wonder if newbies would think to use a proxy for setting up adsense accounts, but if they do (2) since most use proxies that are used by many (a) id you use one proxy google would identify eventually that ip as a proxy and (b) if you use rotating proxies google would recognize that. I mean, there are probably a billion ways google can spot behavior.

Tell where I'm off or help elaborate the thinking here...

I'm deciding my path and it seems that, as I can write and research and graphic design well, that white hat may be actually the best option to me. Which is not to imply that bhers are not able to do those things (for instance, they may simply enjoy bhing) but for myself that may be my preference.

You are being too paranoid. Blackhat does work. Whitehat is horrible, making content makes me want to shoot myself.

Google works from the outside in, its based on a binary sort, i programmed a database years ago using the same code.

dude, it doesn't matter. They don't actually care that much to do all that work to track every single bher and ban their sites.

there is nothing wrong with being just whitehat, but i advise you to try bh just for the fun of it

i guess they track only the big earners semi-automatically

You're probably right that Google COULD track users in the ways you suggest, but their privacy policy is supposed to prevent them from doing that - so they say anyway.

They do collect data on searches, and they do collect IP information, and more, but they're not supposed to put those together in a way that can identify individual users. Who knows what they actually do though?

Google are basically data collectors - then they spin that data and sell it back to you in some nice, useful form. I try to give them as little as I possibly can.
