    Hello,

I have my website ranking on the 1st page for [niche in city name].

I contacted (by email), 200 of these local businesses offering them to advertise on my website.

    I'm getting 0 reply.

What am I doing wrong? Can anyone please help.

Beside emails, are there other method of contacting these local businesses? (if I'm from another country). Do emails usually work for such method.

    Thanks

While emails can be very effective, it would also be a good idea to call them to speak over the phone or better yet even schedule a meeting to meet with them in person.

If you're not from the USA, and you're doing this IN THE USA, there's your reason. This has nothing to do with race of course, but if your English is broken it just scares people. Being honest.

How well are the emails written? you may want to write them a letter to show that you're serious.

Email gets VERY little response. Nowadays, much of it is never opened. Most local businesses use throw-a-way email addresses, and the rest aren't interested in opening up "marketing" emails. The best (and most painful) method is still the phone. The second best method is calling them up, asking them for an email address and then sending it... some will have a conversation right there since it is so non-threatening; the others will at least take a peak at the email since you can put in the subject line: "Phone Call Follow-up". Plus, you can be fairly sure that they are giving you an email address that they check.

Put a Banner of "Rent a banner" OR "Advertise Here" on Your Website Somewhere, which can easily be noticed by visitors. I'm sure You'll get queries. Don't forget to link-back the banner to the contact page, it takes no time to find them your contact details if they are interested to Buy Banner ;)

What server are you using to send those emails? SMTP out traffic is probably blocked on your ISP.

1- Run some demo ads to show that site has already got advertisement running.
2- Write a good call script.
3- Phone all your target businesses and sing that script to them.

Hopefully you'll get better results. :)

If emails don't work have you tried sending a letter followed up by a phonecall?

Pretty sure, if you are foreign, you can pay per call to Native English call centre workers to speak for you.

Sort of like topping up your PPC add campaign, they call till the money runs out.

I still think the best way to rent local pages is getting referrals from friends, even paying them commission/ recurring income for the client they have given you.

You would be suprised how many different "niches" (in the real world we call them professions) come together in the local pub, and you would reach them on a much more personal level, not to mention that your "associate" has already done most of the selling for you.

    Call them and say:

"Hi [name], I just got setup to get into [xyz business] but now we're moving out of the area...
I spent quite a lot of money getting my website to #1 and it's actually there now, people see it when they search for [service/product city].

I'm trying to get a return on my investment rather than letting it go to waste - do you have any interest in putting your phone number on the site? It's getting about [x] visitors per day at the moment, which should turn into about [x] calls for you.

If you think it might interest you, how about I put your number there now and you try it for a week, then in a week we'll talk again and maybe come to a dollar figure that works for both of us?
    "

Do not stop at any point during that pitch - just deliver it, and then shut up. They will say "sure, sounds great".

It will help to know what a call/customer is worth to them, so you know how much to 'come up with' the next time you talk. Otherwise, it's a crap shoot. Pick a number, and roll with it...
