What about images, video, or audio?

Are any of the formats other than text worth pursuing? It would seem to be easy to take my camera out and snap a bunch of nature pics or whatever.

istockphoto.com has a photo submit that might be worth a shot (pun) for you. They pay.

Thanks. Do you know if they pay better than AC? What are the pros and cons of each?

They pay less than AC I'm sure, since they have tons of photos that they can use in the first place and the photography market is not that great at the moment. But it's worth a try.

If they pay less than AC then it might make sense to submit to AC first then submit the rejects to them. If AC rejects something then chances are so will istockphoto but it's worth a shot.

On the other hand, istockphoto may have a better reputation and sell more images which could lead to more ongoing income than I would get from AC.

Decision, descisions.

AC won't do upfront payments on images, so istockphoto or someplace similar may be better for images.
