Posts without hashtags tend to get on average 300 more likes than when I use them. This has been happening for about a month.
Anyone else noticed this?

never use no hastags but i will try ;)

300 more likes isn’t really helpful to tell if it’s a major difference . How many total likes with and without?

I've tried with a few hashtags, no difference. I'll try with no hashtags on several of the accounts that I handle and see if I get similar results to yours. Hey, you may have found something there.

Do you mean hashtags in the pic's caption or no hashtags even as first comment?

check the hashtags you're using maybe some of them are banned/bad or just out of your league..

OK, tested with several accounts. Posted their normal images (HQ). After a few hours, nothing different. Similar likes and comments.

I'll see if likes come in out of the normal after a few hours or by tomorrow (24 hours later).

@willteasle did the likes come in in the first few hours, or just little by little within 24 hours?

Trickled in over 24 hours. However my latest post bombed! so maybe Its not dependant on hashtags.

Yeah possibly I use 8 and mix them up

What is the increase in percentage?

I mean is it higher than 20%?

You should think in terms of percentages rather than actual numbers.
My maths skills is pretty appalling sorry :(

No hashtags at all.
I always post them only in the first comment to keep it neat

i checked and dont see a increase with no hashtags ......

Hashtags are dead. Have you guys been seeing the new Insight posts? The ones being posted by various people? From small to largre, hashtag is a small source in terms of engagement. If you haven't already seen, the new Business Insight now tells you where your engagement comes from. If you don't have the update, it is being rolled out... I'm seeing less than 4%.

OK guys, no major difference with, or without hashtags after 24 hours.

Maybe it was a one-off, or just applies to OPs account. Instagram can be weird that way.

On the post insights on an IG business page, I see the following breakdown of the impressions: From Explore (54%), From Home (25%), From Profile (1%), and From Other (20%). The percentages come from a random post I selected. Where are you seeing this info?

Those are not percentage but actual numbers . If you didn't get any hashtag likes then it doesnt show up. It is the same when you look at your weekly and dont see any email clicks, website visits or phone calls. They dont show it. It should be above "other".. Again, proves my point, Hashtags for some account is meaningless as they are not the source of engagement. Look at all your posts. SOme will show and some don't.

Now I noticed what you mean, but I'm not sure if it's just that Instagram is shuffling around things.

I have 5 business pages on my phone and only one breaks up the impressions into categories. I went back through the last 10 posts of the page that breaks up the impressions and only found one of the post that included the "From Hashtags" category (see attached). The weird thing is that the posts that don't include the "From Hashtags" category, include the "From Profile" category and vice versa. That is really strange and makes no sense. It seems that IG only shows 4 categories for the impressions.

It is also counter intuitive that posts are not bringing any impressions due to hashtags. If the post ranks for a popular hashtag, which all of the posts of our page do, by probability they have to generate impressions from hashtags. It just makes no sense and is why Instagram is possibly experimenting with this new way to display post insights. I'm not sure if there are any articles about this yet.

I think you are over-estimating the importance of hashtags. It looks like you only 6% discovery from them. The rest is probably from explore. If they were from hashtags, the user probably looked at one pic and didn't engage on that image but scrolled to the next images. Then, the hashtag discovery doesnt tabulate.

When was the last time you, as an end user used hashtags. Besides checking your competitors or where you place in the Top9. For many, almost never but Explore, people do actively use. Or they go to a post because their pals tagged them in it.

But if hashtags don't matter, what will Instagram use them for?

I have been reading for a while now the increase of using AI to recognize the content of pictures and videos and rank them, but am not sure if that's what we're seeing right now, assuming that hashtags are not effective anymore as you say.

I haven't seen data that's convincing enough yet that hashtags are being ignored and that posts with less hashtags perform better than posts with more.

I too was really shocked when I saw the piddling traffic that was coming from hashtags. Even some of my best posts with 6-8k impressions only are getting less than 100 of those from hashtags. I originally thought this meant I was shadow banned but after checking this is not the case. Did we all just completely overestimate the importance of tags and how many people actually search for them?

See the attached for an example.
