For the first time, after many years of doing SEO, I’ve encountered a SEO nut that I simply cannot crack and I would appreciate if you could share your thoughts.
I bought an expired e-shop domain in a particular niche. I remade the site with the previous content on the simple WP theme and simply left the site to be. Very soon it got its decent SERP positions back. So far so good.
I then decided to ‘rebrand’ and bought a brand-new domain, created the website on a premium WP theme, copied the content from the above mentioned website and made proper 301 redirects to each corresponding page.
However, the positions on the new website were significantly lower and didn’t seem to improve. Furthermore, they would drop much lower just to move somewhere around the starting positions some time soon.
After some time I redirected (301) another expired e-shop that I had for several years that I also recreated with the previous content. It wasn’t a strong domain, never had good SERP positions, but content was of enough high-quality and it was from exactly same niche.
Then, about a month after registering the domain, I started working on off-site SEO: I bought SEO articles mostly in high-quality local newspapers, high-quality niche-related websites and very few content farms (mostly niche-related). I worked like this consistently for almost 6 months (buying a link once a week or so).
Furthermore, since I owned a company from a previous (semi-related) venture, which was now dead, I ‘rebranded’ my company GMB account as well as similar national bussiness directories to be related to my new e-shop.
Here’s the thing, though: after working on the website for 6 months now, my SERP positions not only haven’t improved AT ALL, but actually dropped like a hammer several months ago with many keywords dropping out of the index entirely. It’s been something like 3 months like this, I kept working on the off-site SEO and making some little adjustments in the website itself, but to no avail: positions seem to have stabilized, maybe even dropping a little, certainly not improving.
What do you think is the issue with this? What am I missing?
