Kk guys, I have a weird google dance with Site K. For two nights now its done the following;

Keyword A: Site K is sitting on page 4.

Four hours later, Site K is now sitting at #2 for Keyword A. It is also ranking very highly for keyword B, C, D and E for which it was barely targetted.

It sits like this, for maybe an hour. Then, an hour later, it goes back to its old position. Maybe it moves up one place. So from like #37 to #36.

Then, it does the same thing again.

What on earth is this madness? This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. Not that I'm particularly experienced, but I have never heard of such a strange dance before. Google ranks me in everything I could possibly want for an hour in the middle of the night, then drops me back, then in the middle of the night brings me back again? What is this?

Because literally, its the middle of the night here locally. Someone said maybe Google is testing the CTR, but thats really stupid if they are because most people are sleeping right now -_-

This is normal. Typically a site dances when you're adding backlinks or making changes to the site. Google comes along and goes oh things have changed lets move this guy around a little until we figure out where he should be. You add more backlinks and google does it again.

This happens more often on newer sites. People often get paranoid about it but it's perfectly normal. Your rankings will eventually mellow out and you'll find a nice comfortable home in the SERPs.

Well I'm not upset, I mean hey at least its helping it ;) if it dropped it below that would be worrying. But the severeity to which it is flipping at the extent to which it is flipping is pretty odd to me. I wish it'd keep its new found home ;)

But yes, I've got a link push going on it right now.

Google didn't seem to care when I lovingly hand built a web 2.0 link pyramid from scratch, LOL. ;)

Glad someone else is experiencing this! I shot up from #8 to #3, #16 to #2 (!!) and #15 to #4 for my three main keywords and then dropped to page 2 shortly after. Haven't noticed it going back that high again though.

Me too. i started linkpushes for a site and it went from number 6 overall to number 30. hasn't come back up in a week. i'm annoyed because this site was WELL past it's google dance stage.

Do you think link pushing is hurting in the SERPS now?

I did a Linkpush too so quite possibly, who knows though, it's so hard to tell. I've done unique articles, high pr profile links, high pr blog comments and it won't budge. Mine's coming up to a year old in June.

I did 1 link push to my domain and BAM! few days later wasn't even registering on googles radar!!!

Hope its just the google dance.
