I've been working on a particular project for a little while now, approaching the year mark and it has been a slow and painful process but I'm comparing it to the last site I launched like this back in 2012, ah good times.
Anyway its been so slow that when 8 new backlinks pop up, I notice it. These links I consider to be spam by todays standards, they're all on forums, the forums are not relevant, the content is shit etc but my 'would love to rank for keyword' has been used along with the brand and naked URL. They've at least put some effort in to creating these but I haven't created them, nor have I paid anyone to do this as I've focused on high quality guest posts. The thing is they look just like the sort of thing that used to work back in 2012, but who made them, why and should I be concerned this is the start of a negative seo campaign against the site.
