So I'm sittin here and my Skype starts ringing as I'm getting a call from someone named "System Updater" something or another.

I answered it to see what the hell it was and it's one of those computerized voices saying "your computer is infected with a virus, the parts of your system that are affected are Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP, please go to this site to seek repair immediately: xxxxxx.com (can't remember the exact domain)"

What's funny is I'm running on a Mac, so no Windows here haha.

Anyway, I just thought you guys would find it interesting that these idiots are now using Skype calls to try and get people to their infected sites. Or maybe it's a marketer trying to sell me on some AV program for a commission, not sure because I didn't go to the site. If it's a marketer, then that's some pretty clever shit. I'd imagine a good amount of people with not much technical knowledge would fall for it.

Anyone else have this happen to them yet?

but then again if your using skype then you must have some kind of knowledge. Clever though

NO, but its a slick method...I would like to know how they are automating skype and wondering if it can call outside of skype....Man another project to research...Too many good ideas, not enough time.

Yeah i got one of these via my house phone . They ask for remote desktop access or they sell you a $60 anti virus that will infect you with lots of stuff

I like the virus that tells you you have a virus. THen to get rid of the virus, you have to buy an anti-virus plan from the virus that infected you to begin with. Then the virus, the anti-virus, and then host virus will bill your credit card multiple times a month, ensuring that the anti-virus, from the virus, from the virus is keeping you protected from the virus.

Thanks for the great belly laugh. The sickest part is that there is no exaggeration here. All that really occurs from these a$$holes!

Wouldn't be too hard for someone to walk the skype phone number ranges and then call it with an auto dialer.

Auto dialers are like $300 per month, and skype gives you previews of the phone number ranges.

I could see someone hiring a virtual worker to go into skype all day and finding range after range after range of numbers and populating a CSV.

Then load it into the auto dialer and away you go. Start calling people and sending them to your website, hundreds of calls at a time.

Interesting bh scam.

I got this, but with real people on the phone (from India), not a computerized voice. I actually managed to keep them on the phone, and social engineer their information out of them. I then fcuked with them a bit while still on the call, to the point where they hung up on me. Ask wnrwnrchickendinner - do not attempt to BH a BHer (or BS a BSer).

@beer...Yep, that could work. I was talking about manipulating skype to use a dialer from it. I know nothing about programming, but it seems like it could work. We use a hosted platform now, but would love to shave costs. Setting the IVR up on a dialer to just auto play is easy. But costs add up, even buying in blocks...Skype Unlimited would be nice for a dialer.
