I just noticed today something I've never seen before. One website in my niche is ranking for really hard keyword. Google shows it is first in SERP, but domain in Google is now redirected to other domain with just few words and offers. But when checking links with majestic I noticed that when it have been last crawled, it has been 302 redirected to wikipedia. Anyone have more info about this?

Bump, the website is still there, #1 for very competitive kw. Any information about this?

Pm'd you, don't want to name any domains in public.

Hi,

I'd be really interested to know the url too, ive been playing around with 301's for quite a while now and having some mixed results. I never considered 302 but since its a temporary redirect i can imagine it absorbs the power of where its redirected to, was it their homepage by any chance or a related inner wiki?

Might be a good trick for ranking and banking fast.

If you wouldnt mind, could you pm me the url so i can take a look too?

EDIT: Whilst im waiting for your reply i am going to try this for an easy keyword and see what happens. Ill let you know my findings if anything happens.

EDIT2: Done, used .htaccess to 302, should be interesting to see how long it takes to rank!

PM with that URL would be great, want to check it with some in-house tools of our agency

Can you PM me the URL? sounds very interesting, will be happy to take a look
Thanks

Thanks for all who were interested, but now it's gone from the serps. Hopefully some of you I PM'd had time to look at it before it was gone. If so, please PM me or share your analysis on this thread.

I'm monitoring serps and will PM those who I didn't pm yet if I see same kind of behaviour.

PM me too if you notice again. It might be interesting

To follow up on my tests my domain went from position 300+ to 12th-16th already!

Seems like its working so far, ill update if it goes all the way up to position 1.
Its already taken the target sites meta title and description too..

If it does ill simply redirect through an aff link and monitor how long it stays there for....

Looks like we might be onto something here if it works.

IF it does work then ill test it on a super high volume keyword and see how much i can churn before it burns!

Well it seems noone is really interested in this....

Shame though seeing as though it just knocked the website i 302'ed to off its first position and replaced it with my site!!!!

Going to leave up for a couple of days and then redirect through an aff link and see how long it sticks for!

Not bad for a single line of code......

I'm interested to know about what you did and which target site you used Thesiege84. PM me

Cool well what i did was picked a relatively easy keyword (brand name), got one of my old sites www.brandnamereview.com that has good age and good backlinks but somehow not ranking very high (i think i spammed it a bit tbh) and then 302'ed it to the brands website that i wanted to target www.brandname.com and low and behold within a week or so (i wasnt counting but it happened fast) it went just under their own site and then for a day overtook brandname.com and now im waiting for a day or two for it to stabalise and then im going to remove the 302 and simply 301 or header redirect/ meta refresh through an aff link and see how long it sticks.

Since i had good success with this im going after a MUCH harder keyword and using the wikipedia 302 technique... not 302'ing to wikipedia's homepage but to the authority page of the niche (which is ranking on first page for the search term) and then ill see if i can make it work with that, if it works and i can stay there for just a day or two then it will bank HARD and simply rinse and repeat with my other related domains!

p.s. ill reply to pm's soon, need to eat!

Now this same guy is ranking for 3 different sites to TOP3 for 74k exact payday loan niche keyword - and many other great keywords. I just can't tell how he does that, if anyone else is willing to analyse and share the results I can PM you the site.

302 redirect is confusing for the search engines. Ranking with 302 is pure luck.

@Op, would love to take a look at the site. Also, how can you tell it's the "Same Guy"?

Very similar trick You can make with 301 and pagerank transfer, just 301 your site on some hight pr site, u get fake pr, but when You take it off Your PR goes up in next update.
