Website presence is much important because it can get you repeated customer and once your website get good rank on google it will bring free traffic lifetime.
 
They are both linked in a way but both can bring traffic to the other. I would still say social media is more effective.

Deciding whether a website or social media is more important for advertising a brand depends on various factors including the brand's goals, target audience, and the nature of the product or service being offered.
 
for advertising a brand it would be social media. Although if you have great advertisements but a website that does not work it will be hard to convert them over to make the sale.
 
Website presence is more important in long. Social media you cannot control at all. They can change their algorithm anytime causing problems for your business page.
 
Websites because they work 24/7 for you!
 
It totally depends on your requirements if you want traffic/sales advertise website, if you want reach and engagements with brand awareness advertise social media.
 
I think nowadays your social media presence is what drives the traffic to your site

so if your social media is not popping then your website traffic may also be low too

so I'd focus on social media first

Both are equally important in present times. For brands like beauty brands, social media is much more important now.
