Hi Guys,

I have built a few websites for small businesses.

I will be setting up my own website very soon promoting my services etc.

I want to hear from people who run their on webdesign business from home etc.

How do you guys advertise? Does business come in from the "Website created by" link you place at the bottom of websites you make, do you spend any money on marketing or is it word of mouth.

Just like to hear people's experience when they started up and how clients find you at the present time.

Thanks

As you start to become more and more established, you want to branch out. Look for cities within 50 miles of you, search through niches like " Bake Shop in Denver co " and give the businesses with bad websites a call. You will develop a sales funnel. That was my main source of advertising and now it has become word of mouth (referrals). Hope this helps.

Hmmm, nice idea, sounds easier than convincing people why they need a website. Also don't have to worry about domain and hosting.

Cheers !

Without Advertising no sales..so the best way to start the thread in BST section..also you can do Adward if you have some budget..you can also do the freelancing ..

Maybe once I have my own website, I should do some SEO for myself too, but I presume there will be a lot and a lot of other seo companies doing the same.

I might get some leaflets printed and stick on peoples cars, call it spam, but atleast its legal :P

My dad once said to me "Advertise yourself'. Wherever you go, carry business cards with you. Talk to people about what you do. Never miss an opportunity to promote your business. The same goes with IM dude. Spend $97 and put a banner in your signature ;)

I cold call. Most people don't like it, but it works. Get a plan, target your potential clients, and follow through with making contact. Everyone has a different style to go about this, but a plan, and making contact are the big parts (whether that's cold calling, walking in, networking, email, some other online method). Actively marketing your services is usually the fastest way to grow your business.
