Hi

My site crashed today, cause a link went viral on Reddit. Site came on front page of reddit, but since it was down, now reddit has taken it off :(

What can I do? (cheapest possible options?)

At the moment, I am on a single dedicated server using Hosting24.com (their Gold membership). I upgraded from silver immediately after 1 month because I knew my use would be heavy.

I am also using CloudFare cache, and Google's Inpage score is good (in green, above 80).

What can I do to avoid this in future? I tend to make a lot more viral posts :)

Also, how to max earnings? (using google adwords.. earning nothingish... cents per day. I have tried a new advertiser but havent recieved a report yet)

Normally the site is dead(ish), but once a day it gets a spike!!

Is google cloud a good option? How to utilize it (thy offer 2 months free trial)
what else?

Please serious replies only

I know the feeling, same thing happened to me last year when I used Rackspace Cloud Sites. With Amazon EC2 and Max CDN I didn't have this issue. People also say good things about Digital Ocean.

Upgrade your hosting and add a cdn. Also make sure your using a cache plugin if its a wordpress site.

I never liked hosting24, I don't understand why are you using their servers :p There are plenty of good hosting providers and dedicated server providers here, on BHW. Poweruphosting is one of the best, you should give them a try. Your specs don't look impressive to me tbh. If you're still encountering problem with this config, you better get more RAM as well.

approx cost/month?

also, is it possible to load share (get 2 servers, 1 domain), if yes, how?

Upgrade your hosting and add a cdn. Also make sure your using a cache plugin if its a wordpress site.

using cloudfare cdn (free version), cache plugin also using.
upgrading from hosting24 is not a good idea... next package is tooo expensive

Put nginx in front of Apache. If you are using php 5.4 then install APC with around 40MB allocation per WP installation on server (and atleast 128 MB). If you are using php 5.5 or 5.6, then you don't need to use APC. Add varnish and configure W3 Total cache in WP to use varnish. Your bottleneck is Apache. You can try upgrading to 1GB or 2GB Ram, but in my opinion 768 MB ram can deliver great results if optimized correctly. I have an ad server with that much RAM delivering ads at 500-800 hits/min without even reaching the maximum resources. You need to check what is limiting your server the next time it gets a spike in traffic. Is it Ram or CPU?

No idea what nginx is.. Both the RAM AND CPU reach red (even 100%)
W3 total cache is installed and optimized..
looking for a decent server (cheap) with 2gb ram...
