website vs blog

Ok so I see alot of action about blogging (new to this scene again). I did a search here on BHW before posting, but searching "website vs blog" doesnt bring any real result... just threads that have website or blog in them. So that essentially is useless.

So the question is : Which is better for developing, website, blog, or just do both. I realize the advantages to making a blog (not autoblogged or spun other articles) to be adding new information regularly to help getting noticed. Adding new content/pages would work the same for a website correct?

The second part of the question would be all the auto-blogging I see (this part might be better put in blogging section or BHSEO section) but wonder how much "good" attention that can bring. Looking at spun articles... they look like something written by someone who doesnt speak english. So for example if I stumbled upon such a blog, I would be put off and not be clicking those ads or links for sure (unless it was the only viable option for searching). So is the real point for the auto-blogging just for making links that G finds to have "unique" content and therefore gets indexed.

WordPress allows you to have a great website with a blog. Just find a good theme,and set the posts to show under a Blog page and not the home page. Some people are dropping the use of programs such as Dreamweaver and switching to WordPress because of its ease,and there are alot more professional looking theme nowdays.

wordpress is Awesome. Im a long time web developer and have moved almost all my business over to wordpress platform.

Thanks for the quick reply. I admit I kind of breezed over wordpress when I first looked at it, because I am much more of a "do it yourself" type of person. As well I have done webpage design (some 15+ years ago now...) before and was at the time shied away from programs like dreamweaver in those days. Dreamweaver back then was basically just a horrible text editor when I was using it, I have played with it again more recently and find it much more useful with its "intellisense" style of design it has now (no idea when it got that feature, but woulda been nice 15 years ago). I am also familiar with programming across multiple languages so making sites from scratch doesnt scare me either.

After taking a better look at wordpress I will probably have a few more questions to ask here Though I am not really a fan of "choose a theme and run with it" anyway, I would much prefer my own style (which I might look into doing through wordpess).

It does seem more time efficient if I want to actually get any sites I want to make up and running to use wordpress.

BAH, would PM you but I cant (sigh). Do you design your own wordpress themes or anything of the nature, or any specific plugins that are your favorite? (I have read the sticky for "complete guide to making a website") so just more curious if its anything beyond that.

That actually does look really nice, and I do have a full time job. Throwing some money at getting websites up and around is definently not an issue for me!

I'm using templatic's hospitality theme,after I did some research and found that Avenue theme was not professional enough for a tourism based website. The benefit of Wordpress is that it makes seo easier then a html based website.

Thanks again for this information, one of my few restrictions is I do not always get time to be able to do research on programs (such as wordpress) or sadly keywords (but thats what friends are for).

One thing I am curious about is how well wordpress is expandable beyond its original implementation. Forums or other such things (though if its difficult I can always link to a seperate page). Looking at some themes and designing on wordpress right now, if you have any more information please let me know. Im always ready and willing to be enlightened by those that know more than I.

The mingle forum plugin can be used to create a forum on a wordpress website.
They have a preview on their website http://cartpauj.icomnow.com/forum/

I started years ago and I have over 7,000+ pages in mostly static html. Now that I am expanding at mycbh, I will be using wordpress exclusively for all the reasons everybody already knows.

I believe that doing it any other way is a waste of time unless you do websites as an art (which I do respect highly). But if you're in it to turn a buck - WP and go for the gold!

About the articles I agree. I offer article syntaxing service at domignostics that produce the highest quality articles - I do not auto-spin, but manually create alternative phrases so that the spinner always comes out with truly unique articles in perfect English every time! If anyone needs that type of work, the professor is available at very affordable monthlies.

Thanks again for more information on this aspect. I guess I will leave the websites my wife wants to have to my design to make it more creative between us, and have a better art reflection. I will probably find good use in some article writing soon. Soon as I can PM and have need I will start with you for sure.

Blog always Wins.

Wordpress self hosted is the way to go.

The themes are found easily and are superb.

There are some really great plugins, which make wordpress Awesome.

Once you get familiar with wordpress, you'll never go back to static.

Already have hosting and a domain for a website my wife wants. Was looking to expand, and it really looks like wordpress will be the way to go with that. Any particular plugins that are your favorite. Or any that are basically a "need to have" for any website?

The page excluder one is good,it allows you to not have certain pages appear on the menu. Its great if you have a really long article on one page,and you need to continue it on a second page.

This isn't a plugin info.

But if you wan't a drop down menu,you create a main page,then you set pages as children of that main page appear on the drop down menue. Children of the drop down pages then go to the right as a pop up menu.
