Hi BHW members and seo experts,

How to find website traffic drop exact reason. What should we check in GSC and GA4 for exact traffic drop reason. Pls help.

Your reply will be appreciated!

Thank you for the reply. Pls tell me how GitHub helps ?
every time you make a change in code, you write a commit to github. For example "Moved banner ads from header to bottom of page".
if you are not programmer you can do similar thing in Google analytics as annotations

traffic drop reason
How big are we talking about in percentage terms?

If it's a drop of, say, 90% then the entire domain may have taken a hit.

If relatively not much, then it's worth comparing the current state and before the drops in GSC. Sort the sub-pages by the drop in clicks/views and analyze the individual sub-pages (the backlinks leading to them and their content optimization).

To detect possible reasons for the drop in traffic on a website, I would recommend following these steps:

1. Check traffic statistics: It is important to examine website traffic metrics through tools like Google Analytics. See if there has been a sudden or gradual decrease in visits, and what type of traffic has been affected, be it organic, direct, referral, or search.

2. Analyze recent changes: It is important to note if changes have been made to the website recently. This may include design updates, URL structure changes, keyword changes, or new feature implementations. These changes could impact the visibility and positioning of the site in search engines.

Check Google Search Console (GSC) for manual actions, crawl errors, and index coverage issues to determine the exact reason for a drop in website traffic. Analyze overall website traffic trends and metrics related to user behavior in Google Analytics 4 (GA4). Utilize GA4's "Exploration" function to compare data before and after the drop to find possible reasons for the decline in traffic.

The exact cause cannot be determined if the technical part of the site is fine.
