Hi guys,

I have a new site where I optimised for a certain keyword. I have built some links and the site is indexed and ranks number 1 already for "domain" which is good but when it comes up for the keyword "domain" the title of the site is different than what I have set it up as. So when I search "domain" the title of the site is "domain.com". What's the big deal you ask? Well because of this my site is not ranking anywhere for the actual keyword I want to rank for. When I go to the site the actual Title I setup is there. So basically because of this my site isn't ranking anywhere for the keyword I am targeting but only "domain".

Any ideas? Never seen this before and not sure if it is an SEO issue or wordpress issue?

Thanks

There is nothing you can do about it, it is just Google being bellends. They changed one of my sites titles two or three months ago, and although the positions are the same, I have lost a shit load of traffic due to their shitty title. Basically says "mywebsite.com keyword searched for"

I do not think them using this title layout has any impact on SEO, but it does on click through.

It will do if the title is missing my main keyword I would imagine.

Cheers for the reply btw!

Guess what...the title is not the reason why your site isn't ranking for your target keyword. Even if Google displays a different title in the SERPs, they're still aware of your preferred title and do still factor it in your rankings. Perhaps your keyword is too competitive, in which case it'd take longer than usual to start ranking for it.
