Website takes 14seconds to load?!

I installed a wordpress theme to new site and decided to speed test is as it was super sluggish....with just the theme installed/ no content it was taking 12-14seconds!!

The page size is 700-800kb which could be contributing to it....but it still shouldn't be taking that long?
I have a second website on the same hosting with the exact same page size, loading at 6seconds (still long)
Is this where crappy hosting comes into play?

Right now I have no traffic to any of the websites, but long loading time pisses me off. I am planning to reduce the page size as much as I can.

Is there really any difference in speed between the major hostings 3 plans (hostgator,bluehost,etc.)? It seems like more fluff is just added as the plans go up in price but all I care about is speed.

yeah all to do with your hosting company, when you do a whois on the server, where is it located, and then where is the website speed tester pingin from?
 
Located in Canada, speed tester is pinging from US.

I'm worried that if I upgrade my plan to a "pro" plan I'm just going to get a bunch of crap like website builders & coupons.
 
You can try caching, but in any case you need to do something about that loading time, because it is to high.
 
First I would bring it up to the host's customer support and see what feedback they give.

But honestly dude, if you're currently with some fly-by-night hosting company (whois them, see how long their domain's been active), you're better off finding another host. There's no reason that little data should load at dial-up speed in 2k15. There are free/cheap hosts around BHW that can offer much better service if you peek around.
 
Go with hostwinds, i switched from godaddy to them and my site speed has improved massively.

Also i use these 2 plug ins

WP Fastest Cache

Remove query strings from static resources

Just get a $5 VPS from DigitalOcean and get it setup and you will have the best bang for your buck. And yes its a bit hard to setup if you dont know what you are doing, and you wont have Cpanel as well. But you know whats better than buying shared hostings? Gettings a VPS and setting it up ourselves.

You can use Serverpilot on the VPS to make things easy as well.
 
Definitely a hosting problem. I wouldn't touch shared hosting at all for anything
 
if you are looking for speed have a look at a SSD/litespeed based web host

one thing you should keep in mind is that there are a lot of "not so well known" companies which are 100x better than the big guys. i don't get why people prefer to stick with the big names (despite the bad reviews) and then come back here a few months later saying they've had a bad experience and are looking for a new host.
 
Thanks for all the tips, I knew it wasn't just my imagination. Down the road I'll definitely look at setting up my own VPS, I am slightly dyslexic and anything revolving around code can take me aeons to figure out outside of css.

I went with someone listed in the hosting section, did a another test down from 13seconds to 2.3, I'm in heaven!
 
Open www.webuzo.net if you like the loading speed of their website .. buy ssd vps from them.. Located in Europe (Bulgaria) ignoring DMCA , 99.9% downtime .. I think they have promotion now with -15% discount.
